Seeing what your driving costs

Most people decide on a trip quickly and never return to the decision: "I'll pop out for bread", "I'll take a taxi", "I'll cut through the centre". Nobody asks themselves what those decisions cost in grams of CO₂. Not because it is uninteresting — because the numbers are not visible.

Odoma makes them visible. Not so that you feel guilty. Not so that somebody can compare you with others. Simply so you know — so that over time you notice your own patterns and decide what to do about them.

What the app shows

After every trip — an estimate of CO₂ emissions for your car and your driving style. At the end of the week — the totals: how far you drove, how many kilograms of emissions that amounts to, how the week compares with your own average.

The eco feedback after each trip helps you notice the connections: this sharp acceleration cost that much, this smooth braking saved that much. Gradually your driving shifts a little. The effect on a single driver is small, but it holds.

More about the calculation methodology and the EU research it rests on — in the methodology brief.

Why we do this anyway

The effect on a single driver is modest. The point of the public-interest framing is the aggregate. A thousand installations means dozens of tonnes of emissions avoided per year. An additional user costs us close to nothing, because there is no cloud infrastructure — the app runs on your device. This is the part of our work that adds up into a cumulative effect.

If you care about it — the app is at your service. If at some point you stop caring and delete it, no traces are left anywhere.

What the app does not do

It does not run "eco challenges" and does not compare you with your friends. There is a global leaderboard in the app, but it is opt-in and off by default — on the server only an aggregate normalised by vehicle class is visible, without routes and without revealing who you are.

It does not pass your numbers to third parties. It does not show them to your employer, your insurer, or the state. Your personal record stays yours.

The CO₂ calculation methodology is open and published. Every number can be checked, disputed, reproduced. This is not a "magic number from an app" — it is a computed value, and every part of it is documented.

What to do with what you see is your business

The app draws no conclusions for you. It does not tell you to drive less. It does not suggest replacing your car. It does not compare you with your neighbour.

It simply shows the reality of your movement. What to do with it is up to you.

For the first week, just drive as usual. The numbers will start to appear on their own.
